Frequently asked questions
Gray Counselling offers online counselling services to individuals, couples, and families. In these busy times it can be challenging with scheduling and travel to attend counselling sessions in a physical location. Online counselling offers clients with a convenient and cost efficient alternative.
Q. What is a Canadian Certified Counsellor?
Ans. A Canadian Certified Counsellor is a designation offered through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
For more information please visit the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association’s website at: www.ccpa-accp.ca/membership/certification/
Q. What are the available appointment times?
Ans. Appointments are available days, evenings, and weekends.
Q. Do you offer a free-consultation?
Ans. Yes, I offer a free 20-minute consultation via telephone or video conferencing. During this brief conversation I will provide you with more detailed information about Gray Counselling and answer any questions that you may still have. I would love to hear more about what brings you to counselling and how I can help you to work towards your therapeutic goals.
Q. What happens after the free 20-minute consultation?
Ans. If you would like like to book your first appointment we will arrange for a time and I will email you the Zoom link the day before our scheduled meeting. I will email you an information sheet and you will be asked to complete the client intake form, demographic form, and consent form.
Q. What are your fees?
Ans. Sessions cost $150 an hour. Sessions typically last 60-minutes. Sliding scale fees are available based on your income. Please email for more information. Payments can be made by e-transfer 24 hours after your session end time.
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
Ans. I require 48 hours notice to cancel a scheduled appointment. Cancellations less than 48 hours will be charged a cancellation fee of $50.00. No shows will be charged the full session amount. I understand that emergency situations do happen and in this case you will not be charged a cancellation or no show fee.
Q. What video conferencing program do you use?
Ans. I am currently utilizing Zoom Video Communication Inc. (Zoom), but this may change as new platforms become available.
Q. Where should I be located during my online counselling session?
Ans. Clients may choose wherever they would like to participate in their online counselling session. Please keep in mind that you may like to choose a private location where you will not be overheard or disturbed.
Q. Do I require any special software or hardware?
Ans. No, you will not be required to download any programs. I will send you an email, to your chosen email address, which will contain a link to our password-protected session. You may choose to use a headset with a microphone for increased clarity and privacy but these devices are not required. Please ensure that your microphone and speakers are working properly before our first session.
Q. Will our session be audio or video recorded?
Ans. It is not my regular practice to record sessions. If I would like to to record a session for training purposes, I will ask for your consent and ask you to sign a separate consent form before doing so.
Q. How do you protect my privacy and confidentiality?
Ans. For Zoom sessions I set passwords for each individual meeting and utilize the waiting room option and admit client's into the meeting. This will help lessen the risk of unwanted people entering the meeting. I conduct session in a private home office behind a closed door. I use a headset with a microphone to lessen the chance of client's being overheard. Files are typically kept digitally and are password protected. Any physical hard copies will be kept in a locked cabinet or safe.
Q. Do you consult with other professionals?
Ans. Yes, I consult with a Registered Psychologist practicing in Alberta.
Q. What happens if I move outside of Alberta?
Ans. I am currently only practicing in Alberta. If you do move out of the province, I will help you to locate appropriate services in your new location.
Q. Do you have liability insurance?
Ans. Yes, I have liability insurance, including cyber insurance through Berkley Canada.
